Chinese girls do not come with green eyes

OK, so many of you (that is, if there were many of you — I’ll get to that in a minute) might be wondering where Monkey Law has been the past few weeks.

The simple truth is that I haven’t wanted to do it. At all. It’s just as simple as that.

After five and a half years, I’ve become very tired of drawing the same characters over and over, telling the same style of joke with the same rhythm again and again. I know, professionals do it for decades, but that’s just one of the many reasons I’m not a professional.

So what does this mean? I don’t know yet. I’m toying with some new ideas, things I can try to shake things up a bit. What that means for you is that there might be things showing up on this space that are distinctly un-Monkey-Law-like. I hope that my current fans will stick around.

Which brings me to what I said earlier. Part of the malaise that sets in with a webcomic is the feeling that no one is reading. There are all kinds of ways to tell roughly how many visitors come to a website, and by these counts Monkey Law pulls in less than 200 visitors a day. In the world of the web, this kind of action is referred to as terrible. So maybe pushing the strip in a new direction will help that a bit.

I can’t guarantee you’ll like it. I can’t guarantee it will be any good. I don’t even know if it’s going to be called “Monkey Law.” But, hopefully, it will help me get back the love of doing this.

  1. EddieC Says:

Perhaps the boys and girls of MonkeyLaw need a rejuvenating trip back to the “old country” — in the jungle I suppose — where they can meet new characters, find orphans to adopt, new enemies to torment, and new settings.

  2. John Says:

I don’t usually hit your web page - I see the comic through a syndicated feed - but Monkeylaw very rarely fails to make me laugh, and I really do appreciate it.

I’m one guy, but, hey, I’ll see if I can send you some traffic.

  3. Patience is Not a Virtue Says:

I’ve just discovered your site through Daily Kos, and I love it, have bookmarked it, and
will tell others! Don’t be discouraged.
