OK, so Monkey Law is back in action… with 100% less dialogue! I think this will please a lot of you, since the font I was using was kind of small and, you know, most of you don’t care for the whole “reading” thing anyway…

OK, seriously, as many of you may be aware, this morning, the Writers Guild of America went on strike. This union, which represents primarily Hollywood screenwriters and television writers, was pushing for an increased share in royalties from DVD sales (I’m told from about 4 cents per DVD to 8 cents) and some kind of structure for getting paid from content sold on the increasing digital market.

I thought long and hard about how best to show solidarity with my scrivening brethren. I’m not a member of the WGA… the only screenplay I’ve ever written was completed when I was 19 and about that the less said the better. Webcomics creators aren’t union — unless they’re union at their day job. Most of us don’t get paid a red cent to do this.

But we’re still writers. And to do Monkey Law normally during this time, to me, felt kind of like crossing a picket line. I could have just kept slacking off and not drawing strips… but given my track record, that would have come across as more of the same old laziness, not any kind of statement.

So I decided on a compromise. I will produce Monkey Law on schedule, but for the duration of the writers’ strike, there will be no dialogue.

I hope this strike is resolved soon, but for however long it lasts (the last one lasted five months), please keep coming back here for what I hope will be the very best in word-free entertainment.
